When it comes to selling your home, you may need to take a look around and be sure that you are well prepared. Buyers these days are not looking for the ‘fixer-uppers’ they did in years past. In fact, those buyers that may be looking for a home to make their own, will still need small fixes before settling down to purchase. So, what exactly needs to be done? We have compiled a list of items to better your chances of selling your home quickly in this market.

  • Clean out your gutters and downspouts. Feeling extra handy? Give it a fresh new paint job.
  • Check your home for any foundation, cracks or repairs that need to be made. Better to prepare your home before potential buyers come in.
  • Curb appeal! You may not think of the driveway as a ‘make or break’ point, but it is important that is looks appealing to perspective buyers. Try to clean any oil or old spills to make it more attractive.
  • Power wash or freshly paint any exterior areas that need a clean look
  • If your home has a chimney, be sure to have it inspected and cleaned. That is one less thing that a buyer will need to worry about when they purchase your home.
  • Take a look at your roof and make sure to replace or repair any worn shingles.
  • Bathrooms – Clean up all the caulk around the tubs, showers and sinks for a nice clean look. Also, be sure that all toilets and faucets are in good running/ working order.
  • Walk around your home and take a good look at all of the windows, shutters and screens. Make sure that they are not broken and free from any tears.
  • You may LOVE the color purple, but perspective buyers may not. Be sure to paint your home (as much as needed) a good neutral color. Allow them to see your home as a workable pallet for them to start off with.
  • Replace carpet where needed. Make sure that you do not have visible stains or pet odors as this may keep people from wanting to purchase your home. If your carpets are in good condition, be sure to hire a professional carpet cleaner.
    • Have your home professionally deep-cleaned. This is more than just the carpets!
  • De-clutter – It is important that you are able to show off your ENTIRE home. If there is too much clutter around your home, the buyer cannot see the true potential of what your home has to offer.
